The Classic Salkantay Trek Peru package is a 9-day tour from Lima that takes travelers to Cusco, into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and along the Salkantay route to Machu Picchu. After a day exploring Cusco and a visit to the Sacred Valley, the tour continues with five days on the Salkantay Trek, crossing the Salkantay Pass at 4,600 to 4,650 meters before descending through cloud forest on the way to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Along the way, there is time to enjoy the scenery, learn about local culture, and browse handmade Peruvian crafts and textiles in towns along the route.
The trek itself covers close to 60 kilometers and crosses several microclimates, from high mountain passes above 4,000 meters to subtropical cloud forest lower down. It is a demanding route that rewards travelers with varied landscapes not seen on the Inca Trail. Compared to the Inca Trail, the Salkantay route is less traveled, offering a quieter path to Machu Picchu for those who prefer more distance from other groups along the way.
