9-Day Salkantay Trek Classic Tour from Lima

Transfer service from the airport to your hotel in Lima. At your time of arrival one of our staff will be waiting for you, holding a sign with your name. They will collect you and deliver you to your hotel. The rest of the day you are free to do as you wish maybe you can take a city tour in Lima (optional and not included).

In the morning you will be driven to the airport to take your flight to Cusco. From there you will be driven to your hotel in Cusco. You have the rest of the day free to relax and adjust to the altitude before your trek to Machu Picchu or explore Cusco city. There are many monuments to see in Cusco city including the Cathedral in the Main Square, the Temple of Qoricancha, and the Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay.

In the morning you will go by bus to the Sacred Valley of the Incas for the Sacred Valley day tour where you will see some astonishing scenery. The first stop is in Pisac where you can admire ruins and visit the traditional marketplace. Then the attractive mountain town of Chinchero, next lunch is in Urubamba and on to Ollantaytambo where you can see some marvelous ruins, then back to Cusco.

These days follow the same itinerary as the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu 5 days, which involves about 6 hours of trekking daily. The main point of the first day is reaching the mighty Salkantay and Huamantay mountains. On the second and third day you go deeper and deeper in to the forest where you will see the most beautiful flora and fauna as well as exquisite birds, fruits, bamboo groves and soaring trees and the Santa Teresa River. On the fourth day of the trek you will reach "El Mirador" from where you can admire Machu Picchu. From there you have the opportunity to see the "Lost City of the Incas". You will end your day at Puente Ruinas (Ruins Bridge), at the foothills of Machu Picchu. On the last day of the trek you go up Machu Picchu, where you have your tour and are free to explore! In the afternoon you will be taken back to Ollantaytambo by train, from where you will be driven back to Cusco.

Local flights: There are two local flights included in the cost of your tour. It is very important that we have got your passport details at the time of booking in order to process all air tickets! Internal flight tickets are issued locally and will be given to you prior to each flight departure!

LUGGAGE AND BACKPACKER FOR YOU TREKKING

Generally speaking you should pack as lightly as possible. The horses carry your luggage from Soraypampa (1st day) to Playa camping (3th day). 4 day hike, our chef takes your luggage by bus to Hidrolectrica. From there to Aguas Calientes, you are expected to carry your own luggage (max 3 hrs), in case, the local train running, our chef take your luggage to the town. We recommend keeping the weight under 5 kg/10lb. You will need to carry clothes, sleeping bag.

If very important your take best cover backpacker, because the weather in Salkantay trek is change every date, we can’t predict it raining or no. If you don’t have, we recommended to put your clothes, sleeping bag and other personal equipment inside the plastic bag.

APPROPIATE CLOTHING ALONG THIS HIKE

Hiking pants and T-shirts are recommended during the day, complemented by sweaters, fleeces and waterproof jackets. It is very convenient to have light raingear available in the daypack (rain poncho or jacket and/or rain pants) as the weather changes easily and rains can suddenly occur. At night, warm clothing is required, down jackets can be useful, otherwise a fleece and a jacket. During the third day (if sunny) and in Machu Picchu, convertible hiking pants are useful, as can be switched into shorts if necessary. Machu Picchu has a warm climate, getting only cold at night. The rest of necessary implements are included in the “What we recommend that you bring” list.

Many travelers add the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu to their list of things to do in Peru, although most people don't realize that there are several Salkantay itineraries to choose from in the Cusco region. The difference lies in the kind of experience you want, how you approach the Salkantay Trek, and how challenging you want your trek to be.

Keep in mind that you usually need to book the Salkantay Trek in advance, since Machu Picchu tickets are limited and available in restricted numbers each day. If the date is fully booked, you may not be able to hike to Machu Picchu on your preferred day.
