Future tours

The Peruvian government proactively closed the country’s borders in a declaration of a state of emergency, effective March 16 until April 27th.

Salkantay Trek Machu has made the difficult but necessary decision to suspend all tours departing until April 27, 2020, due to the fast-evolving travel restrictions being implemented across destinations Peru. This provides travelers with assurance and the flexibility to postpone their trip to be enjoyed fully at a later date.

We thank you for your patience and understanding in these unprecedented times and we are communicating as efficiently as we can. We will get to everyone - and are working with customers on a priority basis.

My tour has been suspended - what happens?

Salkantay Trek Machu staff are working very hard to respond to the overwhelming number of phone calls and emails and they will try to get a solution to the cancellations.

• It should be noted that the other institutions in Cusco, which provide the necessary services for the development of tourism, including air tickets, train tickets, entrances to tourist sites (Machu Picchu, Inca Trail, and other tourist attractions in Peru), have taken As a measure, the date change of the services offered, but not the total or partial refund of the services previously paid due to high demand. That is why we advise our affected passengers to change the date of their purchased tour since the full refund of the payment is not feasible.
• The Peruvian government will not reduce or eliminate tour company taxes on March trekkers, despite the fact that no tours can run. We don't know about later months at this time. For all these reasons, we are unable to offer a refund. 

• The train companies that transport all travelers to Machu Picchu or return to Cusco are not refunded. The tickets are now letting those tickets be postponed to the new trip dates.

I have flights booked with Salkantay Trek Machu - what happens?

We understand that many travelers may be anxious about flight options in this unprecedented time. We are receiving a large volume of requests so please be patient as we work to find solutions for all our travelers.

Refund requests will not be looked at during this time. Salkantay Trek Machu is waiting for the reply of the airline's companies about your flight tickets booked. The flight companies are offering the change for your trips without extra payment.

The team is prioritizing urgent cases and is asking travelers for their patience for any delay in response time.

For this reason, presented. Salkantay Trek Machu can't refund your deposit at the moment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Take into account that the tours scheduled from 1st of June, 2020 will not undergo any date changes and can be carried out normally. Only in the event that the passenger requests the change of date, a new departure date may be enabled until December 31, 2021, and subject to availability.

Credit for Future Tours

The Credit for Future Tours program allows travelers booked on your tours to postpone their current booking and convert their payments into credit. This credit can only be used for future tours run by you.

Offering this feature shows a proactive approach from you. We’re confident this will reduce the number of outright cancellations due to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

In case you want to transfer your trip to other travelers, contact our sales department and they will send the confirmation.

Here’s how it works:

If you wish the Credit for Future Tours, Salkantay Trek Machu will manage to postpone the charging of any further amount (unless already processed), postpone their current booking, and offer credit based on the payments paid to date. The customer payments for these postponed tours are held safely. Any future final/balance payments will be adjusted once the customer rebooks to align with their new travel dates.

Adjust your terms here:

• You’ll receive a credit voucher for the payment of the amount you paid.
• You can apply the credit to any available tours with Salkantay Trek Machu that begin on or before December 31, 2025.
• Book a minimum of 30 days before the new tour departure date. Your booking is subject to availability. In case it's Inca Trail. I recommend booking in advance.
• Credit can only be used for tours with Salkantay Trek Machu.
• If you want to change your tour with others, you’ll need to pay the difference by the specified due date.
• Credit for future tours and any credit balance about your new tour is non-refundable.
• Salkantay Trek Machu’s standard Terms & Conditions apply for cancellations. The credit for future tours is subject to any cancellation rights you may have under applicable statutory law.
