The Canyon of the Condor is one of the most important alternatives that the city of Cusco offers to the visitors who want to see something different to different offers presenting the local market, the trip can appreciate beautiful natural attractions, from mountains: (Apu Pucara) and snow-capped mountains as the Humantay and Salkantay to finally witness the majestic flight of the Andean condor towards the Apurimac River Canyon from a viewpoint.
Condor Canyon Cusco is located in the Andean Community of Chonta in the District of Limatambo in Anta province. This place is located 3 hours’ drive by car up to the community of Chonta and 1 hour and a half walk from the community of Chonta to the Canyon of the Condor viewpoint. The total distance from the walk is 3 km. Along the way of the trail, you can see natural attractions (landscapes, valleys, and sacred mountains) which are located on the right bank of the Apurimac River. Finally, you reach the Mirador de Huaco, where you can see the majestic flight of the Andean condors in their natural state.
The Canyon is the natural sanctuary of the Andean condor (sacred bird of the Incas). This place offers visitors the majestic flight of the Andean condor in its natural habitat and the impressive canyon of the Apurimac with more than 1000 meters of depth, the home of the condors where they sleep and nest. From the viewpoint of the condors, other birds can be seen, such as Eagles, hawks, deer, Andean foxes, vizcachas, among others.
Visitors can also enjoy the stunning natural paradise of the Valley of the Apurimac River, considered to be the largest river in South America.

Day 01: Cusco - Chonta - Condor Canyon
Detail

You pick up from your hotel in our mobility at 8:00 am in the morning, then we will travel the Cusco route Limatambo along a track very well paved for 2 hours approximately, along this journey we will see the highlights of Anta. Continuing our tour through the well paved trail to the Huayronca (bridge) from where you will take a not paved route until the community of Chonta, this trip will be of location up to 3400 MAMSL. We arrive at the village of Chonta between 12:00 m where we will enjoy our delicious lunch watching the Salkantay Mountain. After that we will start our hike of 1 hour approximately along a path extend to 3350 meters Condor Canyon viewpoint, from this point we will have the opportunity to witness the impressive Andean Condor in its natural habitat, we will stay the gazebo and wait for the Condors to arrive after their daily activities, this waiting will not be for a long time since condors usually return in the afternoon between 3:00 pm to their nest. There you will have a very good chance of seeing the condors from closely (2 hours approx.), and sometimes you can even see them flying at 20 meters from the viewpoint and you will be amazed.
Later we will return to the village of Chonta by walking and then in our car to the city of Cusco. The hour of arrive will be approximately at 20:00. End of the tour.
